Travel: Castles.
Majestic, magical and mysterious. Guardians of towns and long forgotten stories. Architects of legends and myths. Castles! I can’t get enough of them. The southwest of Spain is crawling with them. It’s not uncommon to find one around every 15 km. What I like the most is that they’re in different stages of preservation. A castle that is pristine and maintained is, of course, fine as it’s part of a country’s heritage but a castle that’s in ruins let’s the imagination run wild. Every chance I get I visit one and photograph it. Here are just a few that are close to where I live.

Jerez de los Caballeros, Extremadura, Spain. Home of the conquistadors Nuñez de Balboa and Hernando de Soto, it’s where the Knights Templar made their last stand (in that tower called the Bloody Tower). Moors and Christians battled it out here. And don’t miss the Roman ruins!
